Sensational™ Lavender Plants produce 4" high flower spikes composed of fragrant, rich purple flowers that are perched high above the gray and green foliage on sturdy stems attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Sensational! Lavender is the next step beyond the exceptionally popular Phenomenal™ with a mid/late summer and early fall flowering season and beautiful near white silvery winter foliage all on a naturally rounded, compact growing, reliably hardy plant with excellent disease resistance meaning that we can even grow it in the hot and humid Southeastern US. Enjoy this new Lavender as an easy care container specimen for medium to large-sized containers or add it to a sunny garden or landscape for year round color. Provide Sensational! Lavender with a full to mostly sunny location in well-drained soil.
While Sensational! Lavender is disease resistant providing optimal growing conditions will help to ensure its longevity especially in high rainfall regions and the humid south. If your soil is poorly drained consider planting this perennial Lavender in raised beds or even as a container plant. For container culture, step up your pot sizes gradually instead of immediately planting small plants in the middle of a medium to large container as the unutilized soil will retain water for extended periods and this will ultimately lead to the death of this Mediterranean herb. Step up from a quart sized pot to a 6", then once the plant is well-established step it up to an 8" pot, then 10", etc... Use a high quality soil such as Kellogg Garden Organics Raised Bed & Potting Mix with added nutrients from: earthworm castings, poultry manure & kelp meal and consider adding a layer of 1-2 inch White River Rock or White Pea Gravel on the surface and/or around the plant. Allow the soil to become moderately dry between waterings and then water thoroughly to fully resaturate the root ball. Also, growing in unsealed/uncoated terra-cotta containers is preferred over plastic containers.
